The body and mind crave movement and stimulation. When our daily routines find many of us tethered to electronic devices, desks and cars for long stretches of time, our bodies and minds become sluggish and irritable. Yoga, which balances strength, flexibility and awareness, is an answer to overwhelmed minds and underactive bodies.
Yoga is a physical and mental discipline that can be practiced by all kinds of bodies with all levels of fitness in all stages of life. Whether the practice is fast-paced and sweaty or slow and stretchy, yoga is a moving meditation of deliberate and precise poses leading to an embodied sense of health and vitality.
In addition to the rich physical and mental benefits of yoga, the practice also has relevance beyond the yoga mat. Feelings of accomplishment and disappointment, contentment and discomfort all stake their claim on the yogic path, as they do in life. Yoga practice reflects the push/pull of effort and surrender that we face both on and off the mat, and can help us identify what propels us forward or holds us back.
