Implementing Meditation and Mindfulness
Partnerships with schools take shape in a number of ways, ranging from discreet opportunities such as school assemblies, advisory sessions and faculty/staff in-service trainings, to ongoing programs with particular groups targeting specific needs or themes.
Students today find themselves increasingly sedentary, often tethered to schoolwork and electronic devices. With childhood obesity an ongoing problem, unless students are involved in athletics, they sometimes lose connection and confidence in their physical bodies.
Meditation and mindfulness, accompanied by movement or not, form a wellness module which can be easily inserted into an existing Physical Education, Health or Human Development program.
Meditation and mindfulness pedagogy and content also thrives as a stand-alone course. In fact, the classic teaching model of material delivered in stages, and over time, is embedded in self-reflective disciplines in general, and in mindfulness practice in particular.
